You feel like you’re drowning.
You’ve pushed down the trauma for so long that it is now started to seep out into your life. It’s like a volcano spreading hot lava – sometimes in short spurts and sometimes in full explosions. You may think:
I’m not enough. I’m not doing enough. I’m not good enough.
I feel terrible. My partner/abuser/friend made me feel like the lowest person on the face of the earth.
How am I supposed to live my life without constantly being triggered?
You have become accustomed to feeling irritable and unhappy. You know you’ve been self-sabotaging, but it feels like you can’t stop. The abuse and trauma is over but you can’t seem to get out from under it. It feels lonely. You may feel disappointed in yourself for letting the abuse go on for as long as it did. You’re trying to learn how to be on your own again and figuring it out is hard.
You are enough.
You’ve been down on yourself for long enough. It’s time to feel like a whole person again. You’re not crazy. You’re not going crazy. You are doing the best you can with the circumstances that have happened to you. I’m here to help you adjust to a new you. A new you that is kind & compassionate toward yourself. A new you that is able to set boundaries with toxic people. A new you that is able to express emotions without blowing up or shutting down.
I help my clients learn why they are reacting the way they are and normalize their response to a scary and upsetting event. I will help work with you to get to know how your nervous system responds and develop new ways to adapt that meet your goals.
Experience and Expertise
I knew I wanted to be a therapist from a young age and throughout my career I’ve honed my specialties. My expertise lies in treating individuals with unresolved trauma, meaning I help people cope and live again after going through scary and upsetting events. I have extensive experience in working with individuals with military/combat trauma, domestic violence, emotionally abusive relationships, divorce, and childhood abuse.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a type of therapy that is highly effective at helping people heal from their trauma. The results achieved with my clients through EMDR has been astounding. The progress clients have made with me is like that can finally breathe again. The past is no longer haunting their lives and they feel capable of being their authentic self.
Therapy with me looks like:
Learning about the fight or flight system. I have the heart of a teacher.
- Kick off your shoes, get comfortable, cuss, cry, laugh, whatever goes.
- A warm, caring environment that is non-judgmental
- Clients tell me I have a soft and soothing voice that puts them at ease when they walk through the door
Let’s work together to get you to a place that is stable and calm. Get started now.
