Meet Laura Young, LCSW

Laura Young is a dedicated experienced therapist with a Master of Social Work from Texas State University. Her journey into therapy began during a transformative study abroad experience in the UK, where she interned at a refugee center. There, she witnessed families rebuilding their lives after losing everything, which fueled her passion for mental health and personal growth.

Having faced the challenges of relocating and integrating into new cultures herself, Laura understands the feelings of loss and grief that can accompany these transitions. She actively advocates for mental health awareness through her work with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and NAMI, offering a compassionate space for those navigating emotional pain and suicidal ideation. Laura is here to support you on your journey to healing and resilience.

What Therapy with Laura Looks Like

Therapy with Laura is an honest and engaging experience where vulnerability meets accountability. As you step into this space, expect to be gently confronted about your excuses. She invites you to face the hard truths that keep you stuck in cycles of despair and frustration. Her direct approach encourages you to dig deep and find the strength within yourself.

Laura believes in the power of metaphor to illuminate the complexities of mental health. Picture this: sometimes, healing requires us to “open the wound” and confront the “gross” parts that linger beneath the surface. It’s not just about slapping on a Band-Aid; it’s about unearthing the pain so it can truly heal. Through vivid imagery and relatable metaphors, Laura helps you navigate your emotions, guiding you through the darkness toward a brighter, more fulfilling life. In her presence, you will feel both challenged and supported, embarking on a journey of profound self-discovery and healing.

Evidence-Based Approaches for Real Change

Laura uses an eclectic mix of evidence-based interventions to provide a tailored experience for each client. At the heart of her practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns, allowing you to respond to challenges more effectively. She also incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), encouraging you to embrace your reality and your emotions while committing to actions that align with your values.

On difficult days, Laura focuses on acceptance and reflection, while on more manageable days, she dives into cognitive strategies. Laura ensures you receive the right support, no matter where you are on your journey.
