What do you love most about therapy?

Being a therapist excites and fulfills me. I truly believe it is what I was meant to do with my life.  I work a lot with people who have experienced some very difficult experiences in their lives and the absolute raw strength that they exhibit is nothing short of awe inspiring.

What are your specialties and how are you different from other therapists?

I work especially well with young adult women who are struggling with substance use and anxiety.  Many times these women come to see me after something unexpected has happened in their life and they aren’t coping with it in a healthy or helpful way.  My sessions are a conversation.  I see it as absolutely vital to learn about the person in front of you and see their life from their perspective.  Then without judgement, I walk alongside them to help guide them.  My clients are the hero in their lives.  There are so many ways to live your life and we get enough judgement from the world.   I also like to call myself a “background cheerleader.”  My role is to believe in you and see the positive qualities. I don’t think anyone has been hurt because they were loved too much or spoken to kindly.

What do you want all clients to know prior to coming to therapy?

You get out of therapy what you put into it.  Contrary to popular belief, I cannot read your mind and I am not a wizard.  You must take the skills and solutions discussed from therapy and put them into action.  If nothing changes, nothing changes.

How do you find balance and care for yourself?

It’s important in my life to have a balance of solitude and people time.  I enjoy finding solitude in a good book, home projects, crafts, and playing with my pup.  I strive to continue to grow through regular self-inventory and meditation.  I also try to implement the skills I teach to my clients in my own life.  I have to tell you, they work!
